ABOUT
Borrow Smart Mississippi, a consortium of more than 300 short term
lenders in the state, furthered its commitment to customer advocacy and
education by partnering with the Oliver Robinson Foundation in 2008 to offer
financial education to high school, junior college and university students
across the state. In April of 2010, in honor of Financial Literacy Month,
Borrow Smart launched an online version of its education program here at
www.BorrowSmartMS-ED.com.
The theme of the Borrow Smart Financial Education program is "Building a
Foundation for Financial Success." It encourages young adults to begin
budgeting, to understand the importance of their credit history, and to
start saving now for their future.
"It is amazing how many teenagers already have credit cards but have never
put together a budget," said Oliver Robinson, who worked as an educator for
one of Alabama's largest banks after retiring from the NBA. "The Borrow
Smart program gives them some guidelines for simply getting started down the
right path. Our school program only lasts an hour, but if students really
listen it can be the hour that changes their lives."
